Copper Jump Rings 6 mm for Jewelry and Copper Clay

These copper jump rings are a versatile connecting component for making jewelry and creative metal projects. Thanks to their compact size, they are ideal for fine work and very suitable for use in combination with copper clay and other metal clay techniques.

A jump ring is used to connect components such as charms, pendants, links, and chains. The ring is made of 1 mm thick copper wire and is open, allowing it to be easily bent open and closed. This makes it easy to attach an element to an eyelet, loop, or another jewelry component. This makes the ring suitable as a connecting link, as a transition to a chain, or as part of chainmail designs.

The 1 mm copper connecting rings are thick enough to be used for pendants without soldering.

How to correctly open and close a jump ring

Opening the ring

  1. To properly open the copper jump ring, preferably use two flat-nose pliers.
  2. Hold the ring on the left and right of the opening with the pliers.
  3. Gently twist both ends forward and backward instead of pulling them apart.
  4. This twisting motion keeps the ring nicely round and maintains its strength.
  5. Now place the desired jewelry component (such as a charm or pendant) onto the ring.

Closing the ring

  1. Twist the ends back toward each other in the same way until they meet neatly.
  2. Check that the opening is completely closed to prevent components from coming loose.

Important: Never pull the ring sideways open, as this will deform the metal and weaken the connection.

For an extra strong connection, such as for a bracelet, the jump ring can be soldered closed. Silver solder can be used for this. This ensures a durable and professional finish, even with intensive use.
