3 packages of Art Clay Silver Syringe Clay 10g is made from 99.9% pure silver, also known as fine silver. This syringe clay does not include a nozzle, but one can be purchased separately, or you can transfer the nozzle from your old syringe. The syringe clay is a slightly thinned version of silver clay that maintains its shape once applied. The 10-gram refill without a nozzle is commonly sold for refilling purposes. Simply attach the nozzle to the new 10-gram syringe without emptying it first.

Applications

The syringe clay is ideal for creating hollow forms, lines, and decorations. It is also excellent for securing findings or performing repairs. It is often used to create hollow shapes with a base of wood clay. Additionally, it’s perfect for setting stones quickly:

  • Apply a small ball of clay roughly the size of the stone to your workpiece.
  • Press the zirconia directly into the ball and push firmly so the edges of the stone are secured in the clay.

The syringe clay is also useful for repairing damages such as deep cracks.

Using with Wood Clay

When using the syringe clay with wood clay, ensure that the wood clay is completely dry. During firing, the wood clay burns away, leaving the hollow structure of the syringe clay. This technique creates a unique effect, but remember that wood clay itself cannot withstand the high temperatures of the firing process.

Drying Phase and Use

The syringe clay dries naturally in the air, so keep this in mind during use. Prevent the nozzle tip from drying out by keeping the syringe in a small bowl or glass of distilled water while working. Before using, dry the nozzle tip, hold it slightly above your piece, and start applying. Touch the clay to the surface and shape it as needed.

Shrinkage and Firing

The syringe clay shrinks by approximately 9-10% during firing. It can be fired starting from 650°C, meaning you can also fire it using a gas torch or stovetop. The ideal firing temperature is between 800°C and 900°C.

Storage

To store the syringe clay:

  • Wrap the syringe with the nozzle attached in household plastic wrap to prevent the tip from drying out.
  • Wrap a damp cloth (such as a baby wipe) around the syringe to regulate moisture.
  • Place the wrapped syringe back into its original packaging (remove the instructions beforehand).
  • Seal the package tightly using the built-in seal strip.
