Paper type 10g Art Clay Silver

  • Description

A very thin sheet of 10 gram silver clay is workable as paper. You can fold, cut or edit it with punches.

Art Clay Silver Paper Type 10 Gram is a precious metal material that transforms into pure silver (99.9%) after firing. It can be folded, bent, punched, or cut with scissors or punches, just like working with paper. The sheet is flexible and can be easily folded, and techniques from origami, paper, fabric, and leatherworking can be applied.

Shaping Phase

  • Create shapes by folding, bending, or cutting. Keep in mind a shrinkage of up to 10% in length after firing.
  • Do not add extra moisture to the surface. The material remains soft and workable without moistening. Excess moisture makes the paper clay limp and reduces its structure.
  • If cracks occur, they can only be repaired after firing with Art Clay Silver Paste Type. Do not use this paste during the shaping phase.
  • No drying time is required if no paste has been added. Do not use a hairdryer or other devices to dry the piece, as this can damage the binder or cause burning.
  • Attachments can be made with Art Clay Silver Paste or spray clay, but ensure they dry for at least 24 hours in the air. Do not use a hairdryer or oven for drying.

Firing

The pieces must be fired in a special kiln. Place the workpiece in a cold oven and gradually raise the temperature to 800 or 850°C. Bake for 30 minutes at 800°C or 20 minutes at 850°C. The pieces can be removed from the oven while still hot. Ensure good ventilation in the workspace.

  • Do not use a gas torch, gas stove, or microwave oven as the material may melt or spark.
  • Do not place the piece in an oven already hotter than 200°C, as this may cause deformation or cracking.
  • For three-dimensional designs, it is recommended to use supporting materials such as a fiber blanket. Ensure the blanket is not wrapped too tightly, as this can affect shrinkage and cause breakage.
  • Do not touch the piece with bare hands after firing; let it cool completely.
  • Avoid bending or applying excessive pressure on the fired piece, as it can break. Use Art Clay Silver Paste Type to repair any cracks.

Finishing Phase

After firing, the piece will have a matte, white appearance. Use a polishing brush for a matte finish, and polishing sponges, an agate pen, or polishing needle for a glossy result. Yellow stains from fiber materials will disappear when polished.

Important Tips

Add as little moisture as possible while working. Use sharp tools for precise work. Work in a dry environment with clean, dry hands.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from sunlight, and avoid high temperatures (above 50°C) or high humidity (>80%). Keep unused pieces in the original packaging; no extra plastic or airtight packaging is needed. Keep away from children.

Reusing Paper Type

  • Leftover Paper Type cannot be reformed into clay or restored to its original form by adding water. The recycled material may crack during firing.
  • Use scraps to create small decorations with a punch or turn leftovers into paste (the adhesion and strength will be slightly weaker than with Art Clay Silver Paste Type).
  • Do not mix Paper Type with other products from the Art Clay Silver series due to differences in binders.
